Medicines are 7 to 10 percent more expensive
ISLAMABAD: Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) has allowed pharmaceutical companies to increase the prices of medicines, which will become more expensive in the country.
According to the details, after amending the Drug Pricing Policy 2018, DRAP allowed pharmaceutical companies to increase prices, a notification was also issued in this regard.
The notification said that pharmaceutical companies have been allowed to increase prices by 7 to 10 per cent under the Consumer Price Index.
According to the notification, the increase in prices is allowed to pharma companies and importers, the price of basic medicines was allowed to increase by 7% while the prices of other medicines were allowed to increase by 10%.
Order to the federal government to decide on the prices of medicines within 4 weeks
Last year, the prices of basic medicines were increased by 5.14 per cent, while the prices of other medicines were increased by 7.3 per cent. Will increase annually.
Last month, the Supreme Court ordered the federal government to decide on drug prices within four weeks. The chief justice had said that DRAP wanted all companies to come and sit at its door. Drape should be done in one day.
During the hearing of the case related to drug prices headed by Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmed, the Chief Justice said that the drug regulatory authorities in the world are very strong, our DRAP is under pressure from pharmaceutical companies, DRAP keeps manipulating the prices of drugs. ۔
