Preparations for the Senate elections begin

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has started preparations for the Senate elections. The election schedule is likely to be released in the second week of February.
According to details, the Election Commission has started preparations for the Senate elections. Preparations for the Senate elections will be in three phases. In this regard, the Election Commission has started work on the preparation of the schedule. The schedule for the Senate elections is likely to be released in the second week of February.
Sources said that the Election Commission has started training of officers for the Senate election. Polling staff for the elections will be trained in two phases. Training of the first batch of polling staff will start next week.
According to sources, the three-day training of the first batch of staff will continue on Saturday, Sunday and Monday while the training of the second batch will be held on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. The master trainers of the Election Commission will train the polling staff.
The Election Commission has said that polling staff will be trained on conduct of elections and senior officers of the four provinces. Work has been started on deployment of returning officers and polling staff for Senate election.
Senate election will be based on proportional representation and a single transferable vote, with secret or open voting followed by a reference decision.
The Senate elections will be held on 48 seats, including 11 in Punjab, 11 in Sindh, 12 in Balochistan and 12 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, while polling will be held in two Senate seats in Islamabad.
